3 Bodies Found in Lake in Six Weeks in Austin, TX

In a chilling sequence of events, three bodies have been pulled from Lady Bird Lake in Austin, Texas within a span of just six weeks. This haunting pattern has not only devastated family members of the victims but also deeply affected the city of Austin.

The Austin Police Department recently discovered the body of 33-year-old Jonathan Honey. Prior to that, the body of 30-year-old Jason John, who went missing on February 5th, was found in the lake on February 13th. Another unidentified body was retrieved from the lake on March 5th.

The tragic discoveries have left family members in shock. “I was in disbelief,” said Elsie John, mother of Jason John. “It was like another nightmare. It was like watching a horror movie or something, you know, and I experienced, you know, like reliving the experience of losing Jason again.”

Upon hearing of Honey’s disappearance, Council Member Zo Qadri remained hopeful that he wouldn’t suffer the same fate as John. “I was just completely gutted, and I think there was a little bit, you know, before obviously I was finding out they did find him in the water, you know, I was hopeful,” Qadri said.

Nisha Paraaadavil, a family friend of John’s and best friend of John’s partner, Tara, expressed her distress.

“We’re living a horror movie, and I just feel like, yeah, we’re in a horror movie,” she said. “It brought back everything.”

Josh Gale, John’s close friend and former roommate and co-worker, warned that if something isn’t done, history will repeat itself. “It was heartbreaking. It’s gonna happen again and when it is, it’s gonna punch you right in the gut. You’re gonna feel horrible, I mean, this is still really fresh for us; we’re still actively mourning,” said Gale.

Honey, who was visiting Austin from Washington D.C. for a bachelor’s party, went missing on March 31st. He was last seen getting food at a food truck after separating from his group. “They were there to celebrate a new beginning for the groom and bride-to-be,” Paraaadavil said. “I know it’s gonna be difficult for them but just hopefully they find solace in that maybe this will prompt change.”

Since John’s body was recovered from Lady Bird Lake, some safety measures have been implemented, including erecting fences, posting warning signs, and installing lighting. However, the victims’ families argue that these actions are not nearly enough to prevent further tragedies from occurring.
