Arrest Made in Murder of Homeless Man in Las Vegas Drainage Canal

A murdered homeless man living in a Las Vegas drainage canal two months ago has led to an arrest. The suspect, Jemiah Garner, 34, was already in custody on unrelated charges at a detention center.

On February 20 at around 2:40 a.m., the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) received a report of an unresponsive male near a drainage canal at Arville Street and Harmon Avenue. This tragic scene was just two miles west of the renowned Las Vegas Boulevard.

The LVMPD Homicide Section’s investigation revealed that the victim had been residing within the drainage canal where the murder transpired. “After being shot, the victim exited the canal and collapsed,” authorities said in a statement released on Monday. The unnamed victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Last Thursday, a break in the case allowed LVMPD detectives to identify Jemiah Garner as the suspect in the morbid reality of the murdered homeless man. Garner, who was already in custody at the Clark County Detention Center for unrelated charges, was rebooked for open murder with a deadly weapon.

The investigation into the case is ongoing, with authorities yet to release information about the potential connection between Garner and the victim or what may have led to the tragic murder.
